It has been a cool, wet spring here in Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. Because of all the rain, TVA didn’t offer much in the way of low water during the entire month of May. While the trout fishing can be great during these flows with nymphs and, occasionally, dry flies, we decided to go for the big fish and throw streamers.

If you can throw an 8 weight and a sinking line with a half a chicken’s worth of feathers on the end, it was a great time to be on the water. It looks like things are going to dry up for a bit, so the streamer fishing may cool off in exchange for better low water flows. Hang tight and see what happens with the weather.
